Washington subject of history summit

The Butler Country Club, 310 Country Club Road in Penn Township, will host a daylong George Washington history summit April 20.

The program, developed by the group Washington’s Trail 1753, includes speakers, discussions, historical authors, museum displays and door prizes. Registration is at www.washingtonstrail.org/events. It will begin at 9 a.m.

Speakers at this year’s program will include professor Brady Crytzer talking about Fort Pitt; Brian Reedy of the National Park Service on Fort Necessity; Matt Gault on Fort Ligonier; Bill Black on Fort Machault/Venango in Franklin; Richard Arthur discussing Fort LeBoeuf in Waterford; and David Williams speaking about Fort Cumberland in Maryland.

Andy Masich, president of the Senator John Heinz History Center, will present a talk during the event’s lunch: “A Humorous Look at Young George Washington’s Travels in Western Pennsylvania.”

The event is sponsored by Washington’s Trail 1753 and the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau.
