Judges Marcinkiewicz, Haggerty complete continuing education program

Butler County District Judges Amy Marcinkiewicz and Sue Haggerty both completed continuing legal education course work, obtaining recertifications as members of the Pennsylvania judiciary.

According to a Wednesday news releases from the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts, the Minor Judiciary Education Board and the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts conducted the educational program.

The 32-hour instructional program is designed to keep district judges current in a variety of legal topics and management techniques necessary to efficiently and fairly adjudicate cases and supervise a magisterial district court office.

Continuing education course work is required by statute for each of the more than 500 Pennsylvania district judges to complete annually. About 50 district judges attend classes each week during the fall and spring semesters of the academic year.

Traditionally, a five-day course is conducted in-person, but the education board instituted a hybrid learning model for the 2022-23 academic year requiring district judges to complete one day of distance education along with four days of in-person instruction in Harrisburg.

Haggerty has decided not to run for a fifth term as judge of District Court 50-3-03, which serves Penn, Middlesex, Clinton, Jefferson, Winfield and Buffalo townships and Saxonburg. Her term expires at the end of the year, and her commission expires on Jan. 2, 2024.
