A Canadian National Railways train carrying iron ore derailed in Brady Township early Wednesday morning, March 29, and officials say there will be no environmental impact from the incident.

Steve Bicehouse, director of county emergency services, received a call from the rail company around 7:56 a.m. reporting that 15 train cars had gone off the tracks.

“The cars were carrying iron ore, which is a rock. There’s no environmental impact and no leaking. No injuries. The company is conducting cleanup and investigation,” Bicehouse said.

Local fire departments were contacted, but did not respond due to the nature of the incident.

The federal Environmental Protection Agency also was notified of the incident and will be investigating. Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection was scheduled to look at the scene at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Bicehouse said there were no injuries reported, and that no negative environmental impact is expected.
