George H. Pann

George H. Pann, 100, formerly of Natrona Heights, passed away peacefully with his niece by his side on Monday, March 27, 2023, in Magnolia Place of Saxonburg.

Born on April 22, 1922, in Glassmere, Pa., he was the son of the late George and Rose (Kostalnik) Pann.

George, a World War II Pearl Harbor survivor, enlisted in the United States Army after high school at the age of 18. At the time of the bombing on Pearl Harbor, he was assigned to the 55th Coast Artillery Regiment in Oahu as a gunman. He served in the Pacific theater in the Gilbert Islands, the Philippines, and Okinawa, Japan, until 1945. After his military service, George worked at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries for 38 years. George was a member of Guardian Angels Parish, the former Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Creighton, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 894, Natrona Heights. He was an avid reader, enjoyed going to horse races and playing the stock market. He returned to Pearl Harbor many times to pay respect to those who were lost.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, August J. Pann, Joseph M. Pann, Ludwig Pann and Frank J. Pann; and his sisters, Helen Bobinich, Elizabeth Gawaldo and Mary Fritch.

PANN — Family and friends of George H. Pann, who died Monday, March 27, 2023, will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, April 3, 2023, in the PAUL R. AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 921 Freeport Road, Creighton, Pa. 15030.

A blessing service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2023, in the Our Lady of Hope Cemetery Chapel, 1898 Bakerstown Road, Tarentum, officiated by the Rev. John B. Lendvai, pastor of Guardian Angels Parish, Natrona Heights.

Full military honors by the Vandergrift Honor Guard will be rendered.

Entombment will follow.
