John E. Hartle

John E. Hartle, 76, of Butler, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023.

He was born in Butler on Nov. 11, 1946, and was the son of the late Leonard and Margaret (McGowan) Hartle.

John graduated from Slippery Rock High School. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps and went to Vietnam.

After his honorable discharge, John worked in the coal mines. He then went on to work as a union carpenter for J.J. Morris Construction until his retirement.

Not only was John known for being a hard worker, but he was also known to be caring, giving and helpful. He demonstrated these qualities throughout his 20-plus years in AA, where he selflessly helped hundreds along the way.

John enjoyed kayaking, scuba diving, golf, playing craps at the casino and traveling to places such as Australia and Hawaii. John is survived by his former wife and caregiver, Linda (McGrady) Hartle; his stepson, Travis (Maria) Fisher; his brothers, William “Bill” (Donna) Hartle and Ron (Tammy) Hartle; his sister-in-law, Stella “Cook” Hartle; and his stepgrandchildren, Liam and Tighe Fisher.

He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard “Butch” Hartle; and his sister, Margaret “Peg” Quinn.

HARTLE — Family and friends of John E. Hartle, who died Thursday, March 16, 2023, will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.

A prayer service will immediately follow in the funeral home.
