11 bricks of heroin found in township home, police say

A Butler man was charged Tuesday, Feb. 21, after 11 bricks of heroin and more than 4 grams of methamphetamine were found stashed in his township home, according to police.

State police charged Shane M. Bates, 31, with two counts of felony drug sales and three counts of misdemeanor use and possession of drug paraphernalia following a search warrant execution in 2022.

Documents show a warrant was executed the morning of Sept. 7, 2022. Police said 11 bricks of suspected heroin/fentanyl, 4.45 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, ink stamp, box of glassine bags, Ziploc bags, sandwich bags and false-bottom containers were discovered in the residence.

In addition, police said, another bag containing 9.57 grams of fentanyl was found and tested by police.

Bates’ preliminary hearing before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell is scheduled for April 6.
