Madaline Golec
Madaline G. Golec, 104, passed away peacefully on Feb. 14, 2023, at Newhaven Court at Clearview.
She was born April 5, 1918, in Butler, and was the daughter of the late Warren L. and Mary Kehm Oesterling.
Madaline graduated in 1935 from Butler High School. She attended business college after high school and was employed at Armco Steel until 1944, when she married Robert C. Renfrew. She was widowed in 1954 and returned to work at Armco.
In 1968, she married Walter J. Golec and was able to focus her time as a volunteer at Meals on Wheels, Ladies Auxiliary at Butler Memorial Hospital and other opportunities at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. She volunteered as a tutor for English as a second language for students and was a longtime member of the book club at the library.
She enjoyed needlework and crocheting. Madaline also loved traveling and visited China, and many countries in Europe and South America. She was able to visit Israel and the Holy Land after she was 90 years old.
Madaline is survived by her son, David (Deborah) Renfrew; three grandchildren, Robert T. (Katrina) Renfrew, Mark (Emma) Renfrew and Sara Renfrew (Erik Dragos); four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert C. Renfrew; her second husband, Walter J. Golec; her daughter, Mary Lee Renfrew; and her three younger siblings, Richard Oesterling, John H. Oesterling and Marion Cranmer.
GOLEC — A memorial service for Madaline G. Golec, who died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler.
