As an extra incentive to donate blood during February, the American Red Cross is giving away $10 Amazon gift cards via email and raffling off a trip for two to Clearwater Beach, Fla.

According to the Red Cross, one in seven patients entering a hospital will need a blood transfusion; however, only about 3% of Americans give blood.

Donors of all blood types, particularly type O blood donors — the most needed blood group by hospitals — and platelet donors are needed daily to meet demand.
