VA honors veterans during salute to patients week

The VA Butler Healthcare system will recognize and honor veterans from Feb. 12 through Feb. 18 during National Salute to Veteran Patients week.

Since 1978, the VA has used the week of Valentine’s Day to provide a weeklong commemoration for veterans.

These efforts include a “Lunch Date with a Veteran” event in the Community Living Center, visits from local veteran organizations and volunteers, and assorted breakfast treats and handmade Valentine cards from local community groups, schools, and VA staff.

“At the VA Butler Healthcare, our veterans have a special place in our hearts,” said Amy Tomko, chief of Voluntary Services. “We are privileged to care for them every day and honored that we can thank them each year during the week of Valentine’s Day,.”

Those interested in sending Valentine cards for VA Butler Healthcare veterans, are asked to drop them off at the main welcome desk at the health care center or mail them to the Abie Abraham VA Health Care Center, 353 N. Duffy Road, Center Township.
