New scholarship available for women in communications

Baker Public Relations, a firm owned by Butler native Megan Baker, created two annual scholarship funds in the amount of $1,500 each.

The new Baker Public Relations Women in Communications Scholarship is for female high school students from Shaker High School near Albany, N.Y. and Butler Senior High School, who are pursuing a career in communications. Baker graduated from Butler Senior in 1992 and is a 1996 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Baker spent the first 10 years of her professional life in television news as an anchor and reporter before launching Baker Public Relations in 2007, according to a news release from the public relations firm.

“We're grateful she created this fantastic scholarship opportunity for our female students who may be interested in following in her footsteps,” said Brian White, superintendent of Butler Area School District. “It's always wonderful to see a Butler alum working to elevate and inspire the next generation of students.”
