William Hewko

Hewko

William E. Hewko, 84, of Harmony, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, at Quality Life Services in New Castle.

Born in Conway, Pa., on June 8, 1938, he was the son of the late Walter and Lucille Wetter Hewko.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army.

Bill graduated from Freedom High School. He attended Geneva College, Westminster College and Youngstown State University and was the holder of his principal and superintendent’s certificate.

Bill spent 46 years in education, having worked as a high school principal at Freedom High School and Shaler High School. In 2000, he left Class Academy to take charge of Longmore Academy at the Mars Home for Youth.

He was a founding member of the Cranberry Sunrise Rotary Club, and was a longtime member and former president of the Cranberry Rotary, where he earned the first ever Platinum Award while president. He was a member of the Beaver County and the Freedom Area Sports Halls of Fame and had served on the board of the Cranberry Parks and Recreation Board of Directors.

He was the husband for 32 years of Sandra Cohen Hewko; father of John Hewko, Lynn Hewko Caffro and the late Alexis Rae Hewko; and the grandfather of William and Megan Hewko.

HEWKO — Friends of William E. Hewko, who died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, will be received from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.

A memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lifesteps, 383 New Castle Road, Butler, PA 16001, for child check programs.
