G. Earl Sadlon
G. Earl Sadlon, 95, of 111 Elise Dr., Butler, passed away on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, under the care of Concordia at Villa St. Joseph in Baden, Pa.
He was born March 18, 1927, the son of the late Gustave E. and Marian (Clupper) Sadlon.
Earl was a graduate of Butler High School and attended Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon) in Pittsburgh.
He retired from Alltel, Kittanning, as public and community relations coordinator in 1993. Prior to his position with Alltel, he was vice president and general manager of radio station WACB Kittanning and had been employed by WBUT as an announcer and news director before his move to Kittanning.
Earl was a two-term president of the Kittanning Chamber of Commerce, president of the Middle Armstrong County Development Organization (MACADO), member of the Lenape Technical and Vocational Advisory Committee, board member of the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters, chairperson of the West Hills Liaison Committee, chairperson of Operation Lets Improve For Tomorrow (LIFT), board member of the Salvation Army, board member of the United Way, board member of the American Field Services (AFS) in Butler and Knoch High Schools, charter member of the Kittanning Area Midget Football Team and a past member of the Rotary and Elks.
He was a member of SPEBSQSA (Barbershoppers) and sang bass with the Bon Aires Quartet.
He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, and after his retirement, was a volunteer in the emergency department at the Butler Health Center.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Butler, and served on the church council, was a volunteer on the Property Committee, sang in the church choir and served as communion assistant and usher.
Surviving is his son, Errol (Joyce) Sadlon of Freedom; his daughter, Sharon (Brian) George of Brunswick, Ga.; three grandchildren, Michael Sadlon, Christopher Kauffman and Eric Kauffman; and two great-grandchildren, Callen and Kayla Kauffman.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” (Bartsch) Sadlon, whom he married in June 1945, and who passed away on Oct. 1, 2010; and his great granddaughter; Avery Kauffman.
SADLON — All are invited to attend a visitation for G. Earl Sadlon, who died Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
A funeral service immediately will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Joel Benson of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.
Interment will be made in Greenlawn Burial Estates.
