Leonberg

David R. “Randy” Leonberg, 72, of Mars, died on Monday morning, Jan. 30, 2023, at his home. Born April 21, 1950, Dave was the son of the late Harvey and Helen Leonberg. He is remembered as proud serviceman to his country, a longtime community member of Mars, and a loving family man.

He graduated from Mars High School in 1968 and then from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics as a certified aircraft mechanic. He was drafted in 1970 into the U.S. Army, where he served a tour of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4. He worked for Mashuda Corporation before returning to military service at the 171st Air Refueling Wing of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, where he participated in both civilian and National Guard duties and in multiple military engagements until his retirement after 26 years of service as a senior master sergeant.

Dave enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter for 61 years. After his retirement, he and his wife, Suzanne, moved from Mars to Marienville, Pa, where he was frequently found in the Allegheny Forest hiking, riding the bicycle and ATV, and canoeing, all with his family and friends.

He was an active member of the Mars and Marienville community, where his expertise in all mechanical problems and willingness to lend a hand in his community will always be remembered. He was also a member of the Mars VFW Post 7505 and the John E. Mair Masonic Lodge of Mars, Pa.

Above all else, his family was very important to him, and the driving force of all that he did. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Suzanne Weaver Leonberg of Mars; his son, Joel Leonberg, and his wife, Mercedes; his grandchildren, Karley, Oakley, and Silas Leonberg; his daughter, Kristin Leonberg; his daughter, Amanda Leonberg-Yoo, and her husband, Ku; and his son, Ryan Leonberg, and his wife, Valerie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey R Leonberg of Cranberry and Helen D Fritz Leonberg of Downieville; and his sister, Ruth Ann Leonberg Conley Sylvester of Beaver Falls.

LEONBERG — Friends of David R. “Randy” Leonberg, who died Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, at his home are invited to a celebration of life on Saturday, April 29, 2023, from noon until 3 p.m. at the Adams Township Community Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053, or Mars VFW Post 7505, 331 Mars-Valencia Road, Mars, PA 16046.
