Ronald Duhon

Duhon

Ronald G. Duhon, 91, of McCandless, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, Jan. 13, 2023.

Born Aug. 29, 1931, in Daytona Beach, Fla., he was the son of the late Gaston Francis and Mildred Gencen Duhon.

Ron was born in Daytona Beach and was raised in Baton Rouge, La. He graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU) with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1948 until 1952, having served during the Korean War as a staff sergeant. He also served in the USMC Reserve from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1956.

Ron met the love of his life, Aurora J. Gimenez Aguayo-Nunez Duhon, while working in Jamaica for Alcoa. After their marriage on Nov. 6, 1964, his work took them to such places as Australia, China, Suriname, Greece and several locations in the United States. They moved many times throughout the U.S. until landing permanently in Pittsburgh in the summer of 1981.

Ron was an avid football fan and scheduled everything around the college and NFL football games every weekend. He always said, “There’s football season, and there’s waiting-for-football season.” He was a voracious reader, loved going out to eat and always had time for coffee and dessert. Nothing, though, could compare to his love and devotion to his family.

Ron will be missed immensely by his family, who will proudly continue to carry on his legacy. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Nicole Aurora Finney (Charles) Headley and Yvonne Aurora (Edward) Shick; his eight grandchildren, Derek Duhon Finney, Luke David Gimenez Finney, Joshua Charles Headley, Amber Nicole (Chris) Nocera, Alexa Christine Headley, Olivia Grace Headley, Kya Aurora Shick and Chance Henry Duhon Shick; and his great-granddaughter, Capri Noelle Nocera.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Aurora J. Duhon; and their two sons, Dennis George Duhon of Perth, Australia, and Derek George Duhon of Los Angeles, Calif.
