Walter G. “Walt” Cummins Jr., 92, of Hilliards, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at Quality Life Services-Sugarcreek.

Born on March 26, 1930, in Uniontown, Walt was the son of the late Walter G. Cummins Sr. and the late Madeline Cummins Wolfe.

Walt was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during Korea.

He was retired from Braun Baking Company, where he worked as a driver and salesman.

Walt is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sallee Lou (Hixson) Cummins, whom he married on March 12, 1952; one daughter, Rhonda (Dean) L. Hershey of Hilliards; two sons, Lester G. “Skip” (Nancy) Cummins of Dumfries, Va., and Glenn Cummins of Hilliards; seven grandchildren, Dean Hershey Jr. of Petrolia, Jason Hershey of Tuscon, Ariz., Ryan (Caitlin) Cummins of Falls Church, Va., Casey (Al) Stadnyk of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., Kristi (Zac) Runyan of Baldwin, Chelsea Cummins of Baldwin, and Devan Cummins of West Sunbury; and nine great-grandchildren, Dean III and Kameron Hershey, Esme and Henry Cummins, Louisa, Julia and Robbie Runyan, and Harper and Miles Stadnyk.

He is also survived by one brother, James R. Cummins; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his German shepherd, Zeus.

Walt was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Lou Law and Irene Law.

CUMMINS — A memorial service for Walter G. “Walt” Cummins Jr., who died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, at the Valley Dam Sportsman Snowmobile Association in Hilliards.
