M. Kenneth Stephenson
M. Kenneth Stephenson, 90, of Slippery Rock, passed away on Jan. 7, 2023, at the Autumn Grove Care Center in Harrisville.
He was born Aug. 10, 1932, in Butler, and was the son of the late Melvin E. Stephenson and the late Ella Dumbaugh Stephenson.
Kenneth worked as an architectural designer and was a former assistant plant engineer for Moonlight Mushroom Company in Worthington.
Kenneth was active in Boy Scouts of America, where he reached the rank of second class in 1944, as a member of Troop 12. In the Boy Scouts, he was a recipient of the District Award of Merit and was a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a Wood Badger of the Bob White Patrol, and served as a unit commissioner and committee chairman of Troop 12.
Kenneth was a member of the Butler Lions Club and was a Mason.
He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church of Cabot, and All Saints Lutheran of Slippery Rock.
Kenneth was the last of a four-member bobsled group that went down South Main Street hill on one late winter night in 1950 after a big snowfall. Kenneth was an artist and had belonged to the Butler Art Association.
He is survived by one daughter, Melanie Petridis of Slippery Rock; one son, G. Todd Stephenson of Slippery Rock; two grandsons, Alex Petridis and Kostas Petridis; his twin sister, M. Kathleen (Kay) Davis of North Canton, Ohio; and two nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Garnet T. Stephenson, whom he married on Sept. 3, 1959, and who passed away on Oct. 2, 2022; and one son-in-law, George Petridis.
STEPHENSON — A memorial service for M. Kenneth Stephenson, who died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Lutheran Church, 351 S. Main St., Slippery Rock, with Pastor Jacob Deal, officiating.
Arrangements were entrusted to THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Burial will take place at North Side Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, plant a tree.
