Robert Alan “Gus” Gustafson, 82, of Butler and Venice, Fla., died on Dec. 30, 2022, in Florida after a brief illness.
He was born in Natrona on March 19, 1940, to Evar and Martha Gustafson.
He was known to family as Bob and to many others as Gus.
He loved reading, especially books on World War II; attending live jazz or classical performances; and extensively traveling the world with his best friend and wife of 58 years, Marian S. Gustafson.
He earned a B.S. from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.
Gus retired from Armco after 30 years as a senior metallurgist. His professional activities included teaching courses in metallurgical engineering at Grove City College. In retirement, he taught math courses at Butler County Community College.
Survivors include his wife, Marian; their son, Robert A Gustafson II, and their daughter, Julie A. Gustafson, both of Butler; a granddaughter, Darcie; a great-granddaughter, Lillie, of Florida; a brother, Richard (Elizabeth) Gustafson of Gibsonia; a brother-in-law, Robert (Marlene) Grimes of Pittsburgh; two nieces; and many longtime friends.
We will all miss Bob’s sense of humor and ability to strike up a conversation with almost anyone.
