Man accused of firing gun in apartment building

A man was charged Tuesday after police said a single shot rang out New Year’s Eve in his Harrisville apartment, and the bullet nearly struck a woman in the apartment below.

Nathon C. Kordich, 21, of Harrisville, was charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment and summary disorderly conduct following the incident.

State police said they were dispatched at 11:51 p.m. on Dec. 31 for reports of a firearm being shot in a residence.

According to charging documents, Kordrich pulled the trigger of a Glock .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol thinking it was not loaded. The gun went off and the bullet traveled through the floor and into the apartment below, police said.

The bullet traveled through the ceiling of the apartment below, into the living room and through a wall behind the couch. A woman was sleeping on the couch, but was not injured, according to documents.

It was determined that Kordrich had been handling the firearm while under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Kordich is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Feb. 8 before District Judge Joseph Nash.
