Gilbert Dewayne Mershimer, 77, of Harrisville, passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, at his home.

Born on March 26, 1945, in Grove City, he was the son of the late Gilbert Martin Mershimer and late Ruth Campbell Mershimer.

Dewayne loved spending time at “On Golden Pond” at his home, making memories with his grandchildren, family and friends, and he enjoyed fishing and tending to and watching his ducks. The memories that he made at “On Golden Pond” will be cherished by many forever.

Dewayne is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth (Joe) Mershimer-Tooley of Harrisville and Diane M. Clark of Butler; his two sons, Jimmy Mershimer of Butler and Dewayne (Sue) Mershimer of West Sunbury; and eight grandchildren.

He is also survived by three sisters, Shirley Starcher of Butler, Jane Neely of Butler and Nancy (Paul) Morgan of Naples, Fla.; one brother, Donald E. (Shirley) Mershimer of Slippery Rock; and many nieces and nephews.

Dewayne was preceded in death by one son, Michael Mershimer; one grandson, Colin Clark; and one brother, Clayton Mershimer.

MERSHIMER — A memorial visitation for Gilbert Dewayne Mershimer, who died Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury, where memorial services will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor David Janz of First United Methodist Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Autism-Pittsburgh, c/o Wexford Professional Building #1 Suite 1200, 11676 Perry Highway, Wexford, PA 15090.
