Seneca Valley High School senior Haihan Xu was recognized as a “Merit Scholar” last week by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation last week and awarded a $2,500 scholarship for academic ability.

The 2023 National Merit $2,500 Scholarship is awarded to candidates showing “the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies,” according to the organization’s announcement.

Xu plans to study computer science, and was recognized out of more than 15,000 finalists in the program.
