Judith A. (McDonald) Miller, 81, of Thornburg, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022.

She was the beloved companion of David Reed; adored mother of Rachel (Sean) Hopkins; cherished grandmother “Mimi” of Taylor Hopkins; sister of Nedra (Dennis) Casey and the late David McDonald; and aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Born in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Miller) McDonald and Hiram McDonald; and the granddaughter of Gertrude (Patterson) Miller and William Miller.

She was a devoted member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Her passions included the arts, music, travel, Pittsburgh sports, and enjoying time with family and friends.

A graduate of Thiel College and member of the Thiel choir, Judy earned her master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, having dedicated much of her life as a therapist, nurturing and advocating for others. In this field, she was a published author. She treasured the relationships with those around her, which was evident in the lifelong friends she kept and the many lives she positively impacted.

MILLER — A celebration of life service for Judith A. (McDonald) Miller, who died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at St. Matthew’s Church, 45 E. Steuben St., Pittsburgh.

Arrangements have been entrusted to SCHEPNER-McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, 165 Noble Ave., Crafton.

In lieu of flowers, Judy’s family kindly requests memorial gifts be directed to St. Matthew’s to further its social/community ministry.
