Mary Lou Wright, 95, of Butler, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, under the care of Quality Life Services at Chicora Medical Center.

Born Feb. 6, 1927, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Garda (Major) Owens.

Mary Lou was a 1945 graduate of Butler High School.

She was a lifelong member of Maqueda Chapter 421 Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 45, the Red Hat Society-Bonnets Bifocals, and Friends of the Library. Mary Lou was also a former member of GMS and the Reading Club of Butler, and Armco Womens Club.

She loved her church and was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Mary Lou is survived by two sons, Curtis (Sherran) Wright of Butler, and Allan (Ruby) Wright of Phillipsburg; her daughter, Linda (Matt) Brown of Panama City, Fla.; six granddaughters, April (Bob) Covert, Ashley Wright, Michele Komula, Kiersten Wood, Kierra (Matt) Archibald and Grace Smith; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur M. Wright, whom she married on June 5, 1946, and who passed away on March 24, 2005; her daughter, Melissa Wood, who passed away on Nov. 26, 2020; and her sister, Shirley Ann (McWilliams) McCarthy.

WRIGHT — All are invited to attend a visitation for Mary Lou Wright, who died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, to be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

A funeral service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Joel Benson of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Mary Lou’s honor to the Butler Public Library.
