Ronald J. “TROJ” Flynn, 75, of Slippery Rock, passed away on Dec. 25, 2022, after an extended illness.

He was born on Jan. 26, 1947, to Alma (Grossman) Dally and John H. Flynn.

Upon graduation from Slippery Rock High School in 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for four years until 1968. He then enlisted into the U.S. Army for three years. During his time in the Army, he served three tours in Vietnam. While there, he was assigned to the 1st Calvary Division. He was in a Ranger unit, LRRP (Lurp) (long-range reconnaissance patrol), and was a door gunner.

He enjoyed coon hunting and competition shooting, and had a number of coon dogs. He also loved drag racing and owned an altered race car and drag bike. He was a motorcycle enthusiast. He was an AVID STEELERS FAN … DILLY DILLY.

He is survived by two daughters, Jamie (Brad) Gillis and Krystal Flynn; and a number of grandchildren.

Also surviving are his stepfather, Richard Dally; his brothers, George (Shirley) Flynn, Gayland Flynn and Gary Flynn; and his sisters, Debbie (John) Perry, Charlene Switzer, Linda (Doug) Thompson and Cheryl (Wayne) Baggott.

FLYNN — As per his wishes, there will not be a viewing or service for Ronald J. “TROJ” Flynn, who died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022.

A memorial service will be held later.

Arrangements were handled by SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
