Daniel P. Maddigan, 84, of Renfrew, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born April 4, 1938, in Munhall, he was a son of the late Raymond and Esther White Maddigan.

Dan was a 1960 graduate of Penn State University, where he was a proud member of the Penn State Nittany Lions football team and Penn State Football Letterman’s Club.

After graduating from Penn State, Dan began a 35-year career with U.S. Steel. He started in Pittsburgh, transferred to the Chicago area for 18 years, and retired as a department manager from the service center on the South Side in Pittsburgh.

Dan spent his summers at Conneaut Lake, Pa., where he enjoyed boating with his family and friends. In retirement, he traveled to New Smyrna Beach, Fla., for the winters, where he was an avid beach walker, and he loved when his kids and grandkids came to visit. Dan was an enthusiastic football fan, and he especially loved watching his PSU Nittany Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers. In his younger days, Dan enjoyed golf.

He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church.

Dan is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Churma) Maddigan, whom he married Jan. 30, 1960; four children, Dr. Daniel R. Maddigan and his wife, Lisa, of Indianapolis, Ind., Kelly M. Pettinato of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Dr. Patrick S. Maddigan and his wife, Kelly, of Mars, and Tara A. Smith and her husband, Scott, of Butler; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Maddigan; and a sister, Madeline Peters.

MADDIGAN — Friends of Daniel P. Maddigan, who died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Parish, St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Butler, with the Rev. Kevin C. Fazio officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to All Saints Parish, 128 N. McKean St., Butler, PA 16001.
