Paul Hortert Jr.
Sgt. Paul R. Hortert Jr., 74, passed away in the early hours of Dec. 11, 2022. Heaven gained another angel.
Paul was born in Butler on Oct. 6, 1948, to his parents, Paul and Jeanne Hortert.
He graduated with the Class of 1967 from Moniteau Junior/Senior High School.
In the U.S. Army, Sgt. Hortert Jr. served one year, eight months and 25 days in Vietnam. He was 1st Air Cavalry Division, C Company 227th (Assault Helicopter Battalion), and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, football and NASCAR; and he loved classic cars, spotting them everywhere.
His favorite role was being the best Pap “Papster” to his two sidekicks, David and Deagan; his princess, Charlie; and grandson, Logan.
Paul is survived by his two sons, Tim Cory (Jolene) Hortert and Paul R. Hortert III; his daughter, Stephanie (Bobby) Austin, who not only lost her father but a best friend; his siblings, Gloria Thoma Miller (LeMorgre), Diane (Benny) McCaslin, Rex (Linda) Hortert, Chris (Patty) Hortert, Carol (George) Plunkard, Kevin Hortert, Brian (Chrysa) Hortert, Rebecca (Richard) Kristufek, Erick (Rachel) Hortert and Patrick (Amy) Hortet; a long list of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his longtime friends, Mary K. Kauf and Dale Elder.
HORTERT — Services for Sgt. Paul R. Hortert Jr., who died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, will be held in Pennsylvania and announced at a later date.
