Dear Santa ...

Dear Santa,

‘Tis the season to take care all of many in my sports world. I would appreciate your attention in taking care of the following list. Safe travels!

To the PITTSBURGH PENGUINS: One more run at a Stanley Cup. That core is growing nearly as old as you are, Santa!

To BRENDAN HOWE, Eagle staff writer: A prescription for medication in case he comes down with another severe case of the “Blues” if Michigan beats Ohio State again in the college football playoffs.

To ANTONIO BROWN, former Steelers receiver: A visit with the Scarecrow so he can pick his brain.

To DARLENE, my wife: Face-to-face meetings with Steph Curry, Patrick Mahomes and Cole Tucker. (Be careful with this one, Santa. If any of them hug her, I may never get her back.)

To KENNY PICKETT, Steelers quarterback: Time ... and rest.

To BOB NUTTING, Pirates owner: An explosive device to open his wallet.

To DEREK PYDA, Eagle staff writer: A trip back in time, featuring 50-yard line seats for each of the Steelers’ first four Super Bowl championship wins.

To JOSH RIZZO, Eagle news deskee: Information guides on the WNBA and Australian Rules Football. He will put them to good use.

To JOE GENCO, Eagle news deskee: A Super Bowl championship for the Buffalo Bills. Just getting there isn’t good enough, Santa! Those fans have been there, done that.

To BILL BELICHICK, New England Patriots coach: A reason to smile, accompanied with directions on how to do so.

To MASON RUDOLPH, Steelers quarterback: Release from the witness protection program.

To DEREK SHELTON, Pirates manager: A contract extension guaranteeing he’ll still be on the job when the Pirates are winners again. If that’s a lifetime contract, Santa, so be it.

To SCOTT STONER, Butler wrestling coach: A win over North Allegheny. He’s got just about everything else.

To ERIC CHRISTY, Butler football coach: A healthy offensive line and a more balanced schedule.

To SHAWN LUTZ, Slippery Rock University football coach: A dictionary. He needs to learn words other than relentless.

To JON HOLTZ, SRU Director of Athletic Communications: More time on the golf course, less time in the office.

To TIM BURCHETT, Knoch football coach: A winning season and berth in the WPIAL playoffs.

To JAY MIRANDA, longtime Butler sports public address announcer: Pen and paper so he can write a book entitled: “The Power of Positivity.”

To the NCAA: More room in the transfer portal. There just doesn’t seem to be enough.

To STATES LEGALIZING NIL in HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS: Common sense.

To NICK SABAN, Alabama football coach: A towel to wipe off mist on the window. He’s not used to being on the outside looking in.

To SPORTS FANS, COACHES AND ATHLETES EVERYWHERE: A joyous, prosperous and memorable holiday season.
