Rose Esther Michael, 82, of Hickory Township, passed away in the early morning of Dec. 13, 2022, at her residence.

Born Dec. 16, 1939, in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Mark A. and Esther L. (Johnston) Stillwagon.

On May 20, 1960, she married her beloved husband of 62 years, Donald Edward Michael. He survives at home.

Rose was a graduate of New Wilmington High School.

She worked at Croton Bakery, and then went on to work at Laurel High School as the secretary to the superintendent for 32 years.

Rose loved to cook and bake for her family from her vast collection of cookbooks as well as two cookbooks of family recipes that she recently compiled. She enjoyed shopping and listening to “The Gaithers” and classical music.

She attended Evangel Community Church.

The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and social workers of Family Hospice for the loving care shown to Rose.

In addition to her husband, Rose is survived by her four children, Patricia (Thomas) Hellyer of Boynton Beach, Fla., Donald Mark Michael of New Castle, Mary Lou (Michael) McPheron of Slippery Rock and Susan (Rusty) Kanary of New Castle; one brother, Mark R. (Ruth) Stillwagon of Old Forge, Pa.; three grandchildren, David Michael McPheron and Melissa Rose McPheron, both of Slippery Rock, and Nicole Lynn Kanary of New Castle; and two great-grandchildren, Parker and Draven.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn “Skip” Sholler.

MICHAEL — Visitation for Rose Esther Michael, who died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday at the R. CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at noon at the funeral home with David Drake of Evangel Community Church officiating.

Burial will be at Volant Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
