Two traffic fatalities statewide over Thanksgiving travel period

State police investigated 970 vehicle crashes resulting in two fatalities and 196 injuries during the Thanksgiving travel period of Wednesday, Nov. 23 to Sunday, Nov. 27.

Data released Tuesday by Pennsylvania State Police shows no fatal crashes and few injuries over the holiday weekend in the region covered by Troop D, which includes Butler County.

According to a news release, Troop D had 44 crashes, three of them alcohol related, over the holiday weekend. Seven of those 44 crashes had injuries, and none of the crashes had fatalities.

At a state level, troopers arrested 539 people for driving under the influence and issued more than 27,000 traffic citations. Troopers issued 9,252 speeding citations, 1,088 citations for failing to wear a seat belt and 138 citations for not securing children in safety seats. Alcohol was a factor in 48 crashes.
