Beverly Jean (Fluharty) Shaffer, 93, of Cranberry Township, formerly of Butler Township, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022, at home surrounded by her family.

Beverly was born on Sept. 21, 1929, in Pekin, Ill., the daughter to the late John Walter and Carolyn Leota Driggs Fluharty. Her childhood was spent in Brooke County, W.Va. She was a graduate of Bethany High School in Bethany, W.Va., where she was valedictorian of her class. She was also a graduate of West Liberty State College in West Liberty, W.Va., earning a degree in elementary education. She taught five years as an elementary teacher at Beech Bottom School in Beech Bottom, W.Va. After her marriage to Jack Orrie Shaffer of Natrona, Pa., she taught for 30 years as an elementary teacher at Buffalo Elementary School in Buffalo Township, where she also resided.

Beverly is survived by children, Linda Ann Shaffer of Cranberry Township and Mark A. (Christine) Shaffer of Saxonburg; three grandchildren, Melissa Weibel (Christopher) Horvath of Sewickley, Daniel Sean (Samantha) Weibel of Butler and Jack Kevin Shaffer of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren, Jackson Anthony, Kenleigh Elle and Caiden Luke Horvath; her siblings, Loretta Singer of Canton, Ohio, and John E. (Ellen) Fluharty of Gulfport, Miss.; and a sister-in-law, Betty Fluharty of Wellsburg, W.Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack O. Shaffer; and her siblings, Delora Foret, Marilyn Baber, Dorothy Lutes, Gloria Meeks, Elaine McBride, Barbara Jowers and Warren Fluharty.

SCHAFFER — Family and friends of Beverly Jean (Fluharty) Shaffer, who died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022, are invited to meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, with the Rev. Samuel Blair officiating.

Burial will be held at Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
