Boyers man accused of indecent assault of 3 juveniles
A Boyers man accused of inappropriately touching multiple juvenile females documented an encounter in writing and was charged Monday, according to state police.
Police charged Shawn D. Berkstresser, 52, with felony indecent assault of someone under the age of 13, two felony counts of corruption of minors, two felony counts of child endangerment, misdemeanor indecent assault of someone under the age of 16, and three misdemeanor counts of indecent assault without consent.
As of Monday, Berkstresser is being held in Butler County Prison in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
On Nov. 3, police said a woman reported being sexually assaulted by Berkstresser over a five-year period, starting when she was 15 years old. She added that two other females, one adult and one juvenile, had also been assaulted by Berkstresser during that time frame.
Following interviews with the woman, who police allege were victims, police reported that the assaults began in 2017, with the most recent assault occurring in September 2022.
The juvenile female reported being 12 years old when the assaults began. All of the alleged victims reported Berkstresser inappropriately touching them in similar ways.
During the execution of a search warrant at Berkstresser’s home, police discovered a notebook in which Berkstresser acknowledged an incident of inappropriate contact with the three alleged victims. Berkstresser acknowledged writing in the notebook about the encounter in 2018.
Berkstresser will appear before District Judge Louis Stoughton for a preliminary hearing Nov. 29.
