Emilio A. Russo, 99, of Butler, passed away on Monday, Nov. 7, 2022.

He was born in Butler on April 7, 1923, and was the son of the late Nicholas and Josephine Russo.

Emilio served his country honorably and courageously in the U.S. Army. He was deployed to Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day, and was also a recipient of a Bronze Star.

Emilio was employed at Armco for 40 years. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Sons of Italy, American Legion Post 778 and the Auxiliary Police.

Emilio loved hunting, fishing, playing guitar and camping with his brother, Nick. He was known for his hardworking, meticulous and jokester personality. Above all else, he loved his family and grandchildren.

Emilio was the beloved father of Sandra (Richard) Massey and Carol (Mark) Johnson; and grandfather of Mark (Maegan) Johnson Jr., Michael (Nicole) Johnson, Doug (Colson) Mason and Laura (Casey) McGraw.

He also is survived by 14 great-grandchildren.

Emilio was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann (Cygan) Russo, who passed away in 2012 after 66 years of marriage; his son, Richard Russo; and all of his siblings.

RUSSO — Family and friends of Emilio A. Russo, who died Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial and full military honors will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery.
