Butler Twp police raising money for charity
The normally clean-shaven Butler Township police officers will be growing out their beards and buns next month.
John Hays, chief of the Butler Township Police Department, said this is the first year the unit is trying a No Shave November initiative. About half of the department’s 21 officers have donated money to participate, Hays said, but the unit has not yet selected a charity to donate to.
“The officers that are going to be involved in it are paying a $50 donation to a local charity,” Hays said. “We're thinking with the (Community Development Corporation of Butler County) right now, because of what they do for the kids in the county.”
Hays said people can contact the Butler Township Police Department to donate in support of the initiative. Checks can be made out to the Butler Township Police Department, for “No Shave November.”
He also said the department may have some sort of wrap-up ceremony at the beginning of December, to see how much the department has grown.
“If they want to donate in the name of an officer, they can do that,” Hays said of donations to the department.
