191st anniversary of Saxonburg celebrated

The South Butler Community Library, 240 W. Main St., Saxonburg, in partnership with the Saxonburg Museum, will host a day of family-friendly activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, to mark the 191st anniversary of the founding of the town.

John Roebling signed the deed for the town of Sachsenburg, now Saxonburg, on Oct. 28, 1831. To celebrate the anniversary, Main Street shops will offer specials and seasonal merchandise.

Visitors are welcome inside the library to create a spooky craft on 1830s barnwood, view a land map of Saxonburg with the family names of early landowners, and browse the library’s local history book section.

The library will have an interactive trivia challenge with prizes with Fred Caesar, curator of Saxonburg Museum at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Visitors can also complete the “Do You Know Saxonburg” crossword puzzle between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to be entered in a drawing for a Saxonburg prize.
