Slippery Rock hires borough manager

Slippery Rock Borough Council has hired a familiar face to manage the municipality.

Christian Laskey, the borough’s former code enforcement and zoning officer, was hired as borough manager to replace Shawn Pugh at a special meeting Oct. 18.

Mayor Jondavid Longo, who was on the hiring committee for the position, said Laskey’s experience working with council and his borough residency were only two reasons he was considered.

“He’s been with us for a few years, and his qualifications include working with a number of different boards,” he said. “He has the respect of those he works with on council and he’s worked for two years and been able to learn the ins and outs of working with (Pugh).”

Longo added that Laskey has been completing borough manager tasks since Pugh left the borough’s employment for a new position at the Butler County Government Center.

“He’s been able to fill the shoes quickly and efficiently,” Longo said.

Laskey was hired with a $60,000 annual salary and three-year term of employment. Longo said council hopes Laskey will continue his education in public policy or business administration.

“It will supplement his experience he’s gained in borough government. Upon completion of a degree, we will discuss a raise and further employment with the borough,” he said.
