2 charged with felony fraud

Felony charges were filed against a Butler couple Tuesday after police said they used a debit card to make multiple fraudulent purchases and cashed more than $3,000 in checks.

Shaun P. Doerr, 44, was charged with felonies forgery, theft, criminal conspiracy and accessing a device without authorized use.

Brittney R. Rudolph, 38, was charged with criminal conspiracy and accessing a device without authorized use.

Both Doerr and Rudolph were placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bond after arraignment before District Judge William Fullerton on Tuesday morning.

According to Butler City police, a report from the victim in September showed her debit card was accessed at Walmart for a purchase of $45 and for a purchase at Lowe’s for $668.

The victims also provided police with copies of checks she did not write for the amounts of $800, $580, $1,000 and $700. According to the affidavit, those four checks were made out to Doerr.

Police said five other checks were cashed for hundreds of dollars each, totaling more than $3,000. After viewing bank security footage, police said the checks were all cashed by a tall, white male, which the victim later identified as Doerr.

According to the affidavit, officers observed security footage of the transactions at Walmart being made by a white female, which the victim later identified as Rudolph, Doerr’s girlfriend. Doerr and Rudolph were both seen in footage of the Lowe’s transaction.

Preliminary hearings for Doerr and Rudolph before Fullerton have not yet been scheduled.
