Berten D. Burnside, 68, of Chicora, entered Heaven on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, at home after a yearslong battle with heart disease.

Bert was born in Oakland Township on Monday, March 22, 1954, and was the son of the late Charles and Verna Burnside.

He attended Butler High School, then entered the U.S. Navy and was a submarine sailor until his retirement.

Bert married Courtney Leech on Saturday, Nov. 21, 1987, in San Diego, Calif., where he was stationed.

He was known by his friends and family for his wit and passion for studying and teaching God’s Word.

Bert is survived by his wife, Courtney; his brother, Richard (Chris) Burnside; his sons, Michael (Abigail) and Joshua; and his grandchildren, Michael, Caleb, James and Nirvana.

BURNSIDE — Friends of Berten D. Burnside, who died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Fellowship Alliance Church, 200 Faith Way, Fared Drive, Butler.

The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Andy Wills officiating.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, Chicora.

As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Faith Fellowship Alliance Church, 200 Faith Way, Fared Drive, Butler, PA 16001.
