Butler VA accepting expired prescriptions

Non-veterans can dispose of expired prescriptions, including controlled substances, at an upcoming event.

The drop-off will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at Butler VA Health Care System’s New Castle Road campus during VA Take Back Day.

The take back is the result of legislation signed by President Joe Biden on July 29, 2021.

The Dispose Unused Medications and Prescription Opioids Act requires the VA to establish designated time periods when veterans and non-veterans can dispose of opioids and other controlled substance medications.

Civilians who can’t participate can use the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s public disposal locations search tool to find collection sites.

Veterans enrolled for VA care can bring their expired and unused medications to their VA site of care for disposal any time by contacting their local VA Police Service or VA Pharmacy.

Butler VA Chief of Police Services Tom Bennett can be reached at 878-271-6789. Information is available at the VA Butler Health Care website.
