Glen T. Widenhofer, 89, of Butler, unexpectedly passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at his residence.

Born March 24, 1933, in Butler, he was a son of the late Gilbert H. and Mary O’Brien Widenhofer.

A veteran of the U. S. Army, he enlisted during the Korean Conflict. In the course of Glen’s 23-year Army career, he held a number of stateside assignments; he was stationed for nine years in Europe; and he did a tour of duty in Vietnam. Glen and eight of his brothers proudly served our country in various branches of the military. One of them, Robert Widenhofer, was killed in action in World War II.

After his retirement from the Army, Glen was employed for 21 years as a firefighter with the VA Fire Department in Butler.

Upon his retirement from the VA Fire Department, he decided the next 20 years of his life would be spent at flea markets or at Wally Yaracs’ auctions. Everyone there fondly referred to Glen as “Slick.”

Glen was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Saint Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Herman.

He also belonged to the Herman Volunteer Fire Company, where he sold Herman raffle tickets for years. He was a member of VFW Post 249 in Butler and VFW Post 7376 in Saxonburg.

Glen is survived by two sons, Thomas Widenhofer and his wife, Rusty, of Littleton, N.C., and Ricky Widenhofer and his wife, Kathy, of West Sunbury; two daughters, Virginia Steighner and Glenda Martin, both of Butler; one sister, Margaret Freehling, of Saxonburg; one sister-in-law, Veronica Widenhofer, of Butler; nine grandchildren, Donny, Kris, Brian, Breanne, Rachel, Allison, Shawna, Erick and Sarah; 14 great-grandchildren, Dillon, Sebastian, Kameron, Emma, Lily, Koa, Jackson, Andrew, Rylynn, Vera, Rayden, Bodhi, Aspen and Thomas; one great-great-grandson, Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He also is survived by his former wife, Leonie Widenhofer Graham, and her husband, Ronald Graham, Glen’s friend, of Butler.

In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by 10 brothers and two sisters.
