Richard and Deborah Newell of Butler celebrated 50 years of marriage with a weeklong family celebration in August at the beach in Emerald Isle, N.C.

Newell married the former Deborah Tackett on Sept. 23, 1972, at St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, Butler.

They have two children, Timothy Newell of Vandergrift, and Kristen (Matthew) Tracy of South Fayette.

They also have four grandchildren.

Newell is a retired VA social worker and a veteran of the Air Force and Army reserves. He is a member of St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church.

Mrs. Newell retired from the VA Credit Union. She is a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Butler.
