Protein vaccine to be offered by health system

Butler Health System will be offering the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine at clinics Sept. 28, Oct. 8, Oct. 26 Nov. 5 and Dec. 3.

This protein subunit vaccine is authorized for people 12 years old and older. Its primary series is two doses, scheduled four weeks apart.

Unlike other currently available COVID-19 vaccines, the Novavax shot contains no mRNA or viral particles, only a protein, making it similar to the annual influenza vaccine, according to a news release from the health system.

In addition, Butler Health System will once again host pediatric COVID-19 vaccine clinic, and will continue hosting bivalent vaccine clinics.

Information about these vaccines, including any eligibility requirements, is available on the BHS website at butlerhealthsystem.org.
