Mars grad Bednar up for Roberto Clemente Award
Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher and Mars graduate David Bednar was announced Thursday as the franchise’s nominee for Major League Baseball’s Roberto Clemente Award.
The annual honor is presented to the player who best represents the sport through characater, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions — both on and off the diamond. As part of the program, each MLB club nominates one player to be considered for the league-wide award in tribute to Clemente’s achievements and character.
This year’s winner will be selected by a panel that includes MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, representatives from Captial One, MLB-affiliated networks, MLB.com, and Roberto’s children — Enrique, Luis, and Roberto Clemente, Jr.
Until Oct. 5, fans can vote for the Roberto Clemente Award at mlb.com/clemente21.
