David Bortmes
David M. “Davey” Bortmes, 53, of Karns City, passed away Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, from injuries he sustained in a work-related vehicle accident in Adams Township.
Born in Butler on May 16, 1969, David was the son of David P. Bortmes and Donna M. Rupert Garris.
He attended Karns City Area High School and had earned a GED. David held a CDL license and had been employed for 14 years by Waste Management as a front load truck driver.
David was a well-known and skilled gunsmith and had built several of his own guns. He enjoyed hunting, riding his ATV and motorcycle racing with his son.
He is survived by his wife, Rena C. Hile Bortmes, whom he married in Butler on Feb. 13, 1996.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, David P. Bortmes, of Karns City and his mother and her husband, Donna and David Garris, of East Butler. Also surviving are two children, Amber Lynn Bortmes (Aaron Cunningham) and Austin James Bortmes (Hanna Pletcher), all of Karns City; a grandson, Laykin Cunningham; sisters, Rhonda Finney of Wexford, Leighann Bortmes of Karns City and Wendy Bortmes of East Brady; mother-in-law, Barbara Price Hile of Chicora; two sisters-in-law, Heather Kusner and her husband, Drew, of Petrolia and Robin Hile of Chicora; as well as a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Barry L. Hile Sr.; and his brother-in-law, Barry L. “Chip” Hile Jr.
BORTMES — Friends of David M. “Davey” Bortmes, who died Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, will be received from noon to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at HILE FUNERAL HOME, 128 Main St., Karns City.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Bishop Alan Ion, pastor of Karns City Church of God of Prophecy, officiating.
Interment will be at Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
