Sarah Kennedy

Kennedy

Sarah “Sally” Marie Barlow Kennedy, 87, of Portersville, peacefully passed away on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022, at Quality Life Services in Grove City, while under hospice care.

Born May 27, 1935, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Openshaw Barlow.

Before meeting her husband, Jack, and because of her sister Nancy’s testimony, Sally asked Jesus to be her Savior and Lord. Sally’s faith, family and passion for music fulfilled her life as a pastor’s wife. She traveled with her husband, the Rev. John “Jack” E. Kennedy II, from church to church and to numerous mission fields, where they served in Ghana, Kenya, Haiti and Mali. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ at the churches where he was pastor, including Mountville Presbyterian Church in Portersville; churches in Rhode Island, New York and Ohio; and the Fairmount Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Franklin Park.

She received her B.S. in music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was a former music teacher at Portersville Christian School. Sally enjoyed teaching piano and organ lessons, as well as being a director of day care in Steubenville, Ohio, and Nairobi, Kenya.

Sally will be remembered for her hospitality, as she was a good cook and enjoyed entertaining guests in her home.

Surviving are her children, Rebecca (Kevin) Lippy of Hanover, Pa., John P. Kennedy of Portersville, David P. (Suzi) Kennedy of Granville, Ohio, Peter W. (Tammy) Kennedy of Garner, N.C., Stephen E. (Tammy) Kennedy of Portersville, and Joy (Hank) Sallmen of Fredonia; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; two sisters-in-law, Betsy Barlow and Joan Kennedy; one niece; and two nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John “Jack” E. Kennedy II, whom she married June 8, 1957, and who passed away April 10, 2002; a grandson, Keith E. Lippy; sister, Nancy Barlow; brothers, John Barlow and James Barlow; and a nephew, Johnny Barlow.
