John M. Thomas

Thomas

John M. Thomas, 71, of Butler, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot with his loving family at his side.

Born on Feb. 28, 1951, in Butler, he was the son of Ann M. Thomas (Vavro) and the late William C. Thomas Sr.

John was part of the Butler High School Class of 1969. He went to Bell and Howell Electronic School.

John was a U.S. Army veteran.

He worked at Armstrong Utilities and Pullman Standard, but was most proud of his work at Hughes Aircraft Company in Tucson, Ariz., where he started as a lab tech, and then became the responsible engineering authority on the Maverick missile.

He enjoyed boating and fishing, hunting, playing guitar, watching TV and movies, and spending time with his family.

John was a loving and supportive son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all. He will be greatly missed.

He was a very giving person, which was evident by his last gift of donating his body to Humanity Gifts Registry for medical students. His greatest joy came from being able to help his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, William C. Thomas Sr.

John is survived by his mother, Ann M. Thomas (Vavro); his children, Christine Grossman (Michael), Shawn Thomas Sr. and Tammy McKendree; brothers, William Thomas Jr. (Mary Ellen) and Albert Thomas (Marcia); eight grandchildren, Shawn Jr., Amy, Justin, Destony, Ryan, Abby, Daisy and Ashley; and eight great-grandchildren, Ayden, Ariana, Avery, Alessia, Landon, Adalyn, Peyton and Jace.

A special thank you to the palliative care team and staff at Butler Memorial Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospice for the excellent care, love and support they provided to John and his family.
