Laverne Sutton "Verne" Bartley, 86, of Middlesex Township, passed away into the presence of the Lord working on the farm that he loved on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

Laverne was born Nov. 14, 1935, in Middlesex Township to the late Paul S. and Nettie S. Bartley.

He graduated from Mars High School in 1953, where he was a member of Future Farmers of America.

He was employed at North Pittsburgh Telephone for 34 years until retiring in 1988. He met his future wife, Elizabeth, while they were both working there.

Laverne was baptized and raised in Middlesex Presbyterian Church and served for many years as a trustee and elder. He later joined Glade Run United Presbyterian Church. Most recently, he was an active member of Clinton Presbyterian Church, where he enjoyed fellowship with his church family.

Mr. Bartley operated a dairy farm with his wife and children for nearly 25 years. He raised sheep and beef cows for more than 50 years. A lifelong farmer, Laverne enjoyed bright red Farmall International tractors, genealogy, cartography and gardening.

Laverne is survived by his five children, Samuel L. (Sue) Bartley of Valencia, Sharon L. (Scott) Gross of Mars, Mark L. Bartley of Valencia, Roy G.( Fatima) Bartley of Valencia and Philip W. (Cathy) Bartley of Valencia; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Danielle, Peter, Samantha, Talia, Lance, and Raphael.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of almost 58 years, Elizabeth Ann (Schilling) Bartley; a sister, Glenna E. Duke; and a brother, John P. Bartley.

Laverne will be remembered as a gentle, honest, hardworking and generous individual with an endearing sense of humor.

BARTLEY — Friends of Laverne Sutton "Verne" Bartley, who died Wednesday, July 27, 2022, will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the FOX FUNERAL HOME in Saxonburg. Additional visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Clinton Presbyterian Church, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Kelly Angleberger officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Clinton Presbyterian Church, 197 Glade Mill Road, Saxonburg, PA 16056.
