John Schlotter
John William Schlotter, 74, of Butler Township, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, while under the care of Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born on Jan. 6, 1948, and raised in Youngwood, Pa., he was the son of the late Rev. Charles Taylor Schlotter and Gertrude Elizabeth (Miller) Schlotter.
John was part of the first graduating class of Seneca Valley High School. He then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Thiel College and his master’s degree from The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. John possessed a strong sense of faith and lived his life accordingly. He worked for many years for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America at churches in Erie and McKean, Pa., and later worked for Thrivent Financial.
John was a gracious and kind man, who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in his free time. He also enjoyed watching old westerns and just about all sporting events. Above all, John touched many lives through his faithful service to God and his good nature. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 22 years, Heidi Morris, whom he married on Aug. 7, 1999; his stepson whom he raised, Thomas Maguire (Ashley Donnelly) of Butler; grandchildren, Liam Maguire, whom he was raising, and Lucas, Jasper, Declan, Pacey and Ellerie Maguire; brother, the Rev. Bob Schlotter (Carol) of Jeannette; sisters, Carole Launer of Zelienople and Kathe Towsey of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Daniel Maguire, Jr.; and brothers-in-law, Carl “Ed” Launer and Rob Towsey.
