Charles Nagel
Charles (Chuck) William Nagel, 90, of Butler, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, July 16, 2022.
Charles was born in Oil City, Pa., to Edwin and Laura Nagel. He grew up with his brother, Ed, and sister, Mariana, along the Allegheny River. His childhood adventures outdoors instilled a lifelong affinity for fishing, gardening and hunting (especially the elusive turkey!). Young adulthood led him to the U.S. Coast Guard and eventually on to Penn State where he graduated with a BS in business administration. The Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad was where he built his career in accounting, finance and college recruiting.
Chuck married his wife, Cheryl, in 1965, and they spent the first 15 years of marriage raising four children in the idyllic small town of Greenville, Pa. Since 1982 they have made the Butler/North Pittsburgh area their home, saw four children graduate from college, and have been active members of the Summit Presbyterian Church of Butler for 35 years. After retiring from the B&LE RR, Chuck spent time at Penn Fencing, the Butler Auto Action and the Butler School District.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marguerite Trueblood Nagel; his parents; his brother; and his sister.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cheryl, and their children, David and Kim Nagel, Elizabeth Nagel, Brian and Sherri Nagel, Jennifer (Nagel) and Chris Villi; as well as six grandchildren, Lauren and Kaitlyn Nagel, Charles and Samantha Nagel, and Aaron and Caleb Villi.
