PORTERSVILLE — The Rotary Club of Portersville-Prospect renovated the John Brown Shelter in Portersville Community Park.

The Rotary Club of Portersville-Prospect was founded in 1957, and its first big project was the building of the 35-acre Portersville Community Park. The first shelter, able to hold 100 people and equipped with lights, electricity and water, was built at the time of the park’s inception.

In 2009, a new 16-foot-by-32-foot capable of holding up to 50 people was constructed and named the John Brown Shelter. It was placed in a section of the park that exposed the shelter to more wind, rain and standing water.

Recently, the Rotary Club in partnership with the borough of Portersville renovated the shelter. The club members removed broken concrete, repoured a new concrete floor including a new gravel driveway and buried electrical wire and a conduit to re-electrify the building.
