George L. Tucci
Col. George L. Tucci, 95, of Grove City, passed peacefully at home on Monday, June 20, 2022.
George was born in Ridgeway, Pa., on Jan 3, 1927, to Luigi and Antonia (Volpe) Tucci.
He married Mary V. Fitzgerald on Dec. 27, 1950. Together they shared 68 years of marriage until her death on April 30, 2019.
George was a graduate of Butler High School. He earned a B.S. in biology and chemistry from Grove City College, and an M.A. in education from Westminster College.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 5, 1945, and served in Europe until October 1946. George remained in the Army Reserve and, as he would say, “shipped to Korea” in September 1951, returning home in December 1952. At that time, he remained in the U.S. Army Reserve until his retirement as a colonel in 1983.
In 1950, he began his career at George Junior Republic, teaching science and biology. He was promoted to principal of the school in 1962. George retired in 1993.
He was a member of The Church of the Beloved Disciple, where he enjoyed being an usher for services.
George was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 519, American Legion Post 220 and the former Elks Lodge.
Most of all, he loved his life with Mary and spending time with his family and close friends.
George is survived by three sons, George M. “Mick” Tucci of New York, N.Y., Blase F. Tucci and his wife, Dawn, of Slippery Rock, and Richard L. Tucci, and his wife, Sandra, of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; a son-in-law, Robert Calvert of Mercer; six grandchildren, Christine Reed, Scott and David Calvert, Cole, Matt and Tre Tucci; two stepgrandchildren, Madison and Josh Boren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and two sisters, Ann Bogusky and Leona Wladika, both of Butler.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Linda L. Calvert; an infant son, Scott R. Tucci; five sisters; and four brothers.
TUCCI — The family of Col. George L. Tucci, who died Monday, June 20, 2022, will receive friends from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday in the gathering space of The Church of the Beloved Disciple, 1310 S. Center Street Ext., Grove City. Military Honors will follow at the church.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
Arrangements were handled by CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
