Sylvia P. Callender, 95, of Butler, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Chicora Medical Center/Quality Life Service.

She was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Millvale, and was the daughter of the late John W. and Ruth A. (Lynch) Parkes.

Sylvia was a graduate of Butler High School, Class of June 1945.

She had worked at Bell Telephone as a long distance operator, then retired from Kmart.

Surviving are her three children, Jan (Mickey) Callender of Bowling Green, Va., Jeff (Sherry) Callender of Meridian, and Ruth Sumlin of Vale, N.C.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merle “Dub” Callender, whom she married Jan. 24, 1947, and who passed away on June 25, 1992; a brother, William Parkes; and a sister, Nancy Parkes.

CALLENDER — Private burial for Sylvia P. Callender, who died Tuesday, June 14, 2022, will be held in West Sunbury Union Cemetery.
